Applying for the CIBC STEM Entrance Award

The CIBC STEM Entrance Award deadline is May 4, 2026, at 11:50 p.m. EDT.

Eligibility

The CIBC STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Entrance Award is valued at $5,000 CAD and is open to full-time undergraduate students (domestic and international) entering their first year in any program at Laurier.

A total of 15 recipients annually.

Eligible candidates must identify with one or more of the following equity-deserving groups: 

• Black students 
• Indigenous students 
• Students with disabilities

Additionally, candidates must demonstrate financial need. Priority will be given to those registered in STEM programs who meet the above criteria.

While STEM program enrollment is a preference, the application will be open to all first-year students. STEM program enrollment will be assessed during the adjudication process.

Note: The availability and value of this competitive award program is subject to change.

Exclusions

• Bachelor of Education (BEd) programs are not eligible, as this is a recruitment-focused award for first-entry undergraduate STEM students.
• Students entering with advanced standing (e.g., transfer credits) will not be considered.

How to Apply

Applications open January 15, 2026.

LORIS is used to complete all student award applications. To learn more about the system and how to use it, see the LORIS page.

• Log in to LORIS.
• Navigate to the "Student Awards and Financial Aid" tab.
• Click the “Student Awards Applications” link to access the CIBC STEM Entrance Award.

Once started, you will be able to review and make changes to your submission up until the deadline.

Application Components

Equity Deserving Groups

Students will be asked to respond to three identification questions within the application.

Financial Need

• A budget form will be included in the application and
• Demonstration of financial need is determined through your financial aid application (e.g., OSAP, Out-of-Province/Territorial Funding).
• Recipients are required to have a complete financial aid application submitted as of early July 2026. Financial aid eligibility will be confirmed in early fall 2026.

How to Access Your Application Once Started

1. Click the “Student Awards and Financial Aid” tab.
2. Click the "View My Applications" link.
3. Click to "View/Modify" your CIBC STEM Entrance Award.
4. When your application is complete, click the "Submit" button.
5. Visit the "View my Applications" tab to ensure the application shows as "submitted".

Additional Information

• The bursary cannot be deferred. If you want to defer your offer of admission, you will need to reapply for the CIBC STEM Entrance Award for the term you will start at Laurier.
• Students that do not complete the financial aid application or demonstrate financial need through the completion of a financial aid application will be considered ineligible for the bursary.
• All conditions and eligibility requirements are subject to change at the discretion of the Student Awards Office.
• There is a limited amount of funding available. This award will be granted on a competitive basis to a select number of recipients. The stated value of bursaries and number of recipients is subject to change.
