Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Your academic life as a Golden Hawk is far more than classes, essays and exams. To make the most of your university education, you need a place to reflect on what you learn inside the classroom and connect it to meaningful experiences you have in other learning environments.

All the good work you do outside of class brings its own rewards — you get to build a stronger community and improve yourself, too — but there’s another bonus: employers love it. When you graduate from Laurier, you’ll leave with something called an Experience Record, a record of all the experiential learning activities you participated in at university that makes a great addition to a resumé.

Experiential learning opportunities are everywhere at Laurier, just waiting for you to jump in.

Community Service-Learning

Academic course content is fused with service in the community. Gain hands-on experience through a project or placement with a local non-profit organization.

Co-op Education

Co-op is a paid work experience program that allows you to integrate in-class learning with practical experience. Explore career options, develop skills and network with employers.

Faculty Research

Conduct research that’s related to your program. Work with faculty to tackle local and global challenges from many different angles in our research centres and institutes.

Global Engagement

Whether you’re interested in studying abroad for a year, a term, or even just a course over the summer, there are many ways you can see the world while completing your degree.

Program Clubs and Associations

Get to know your classmates and professors in a relaxed setting outside of the classroom. Host events, engage in debates, attend conferences and more.

Coursework and Assignments

Extend your academic experiences outside the traditional lecture hall. Learn through labs, musical ensembles, research, workplace projects and much more.

Be involved in developing and launching a business, social or cultural venture for academic credit. Or tackle social and environmental challenges in the Social Entrepreneurship Option.

Part-Time Jobs

Gain practical experience right on campus. Earn money and skills as you work in a department on campus, conduct research in a lab with faculty or be an instructional assistant.

Live in a themed residence environment that expands on concepts learned in class. Network with peers, faculty and staff through programs and excursions held both in your residence and off campus.

Field Courses, Placements and Internships

Gain intensive practical experience, at home or abroad, in a workplace or community setting related to your program. Even better: your experience counts for academic credit.

Student Clubs and Associations

Student-led activities are the heart of Laurier. Get involved in the Students’ Union or join a campus club. Build a stronger community and develop personally.

Community Engagement

Golden Hawks are proud to give back to our community. Get involved in the Community Engagement Option or in the first-year leadership program, or travel internationally on a Laurier Habitat for Humanity build.
