Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Starting your program in the winter term means that some of your items on your incoming student checklist need to be done in a different way. Here’s the information you need to help you start your program in January, including your comprehensive incoming student checklist.

If you are a LEAF program student, please email leaf@wlu.ca for your next steps.

Winter 2022 Term Dates

  • Week of Dec. 6: Winter invoice available on LORIS.

Vaccine Requirement for Winter 2022

Congratulations on your offer of admission to Laurier! We’re excited to welcome you to campus on Jan. 4 to start your winter term courses. To attend campus this winter, you must be fully vaccinated, which means receiving your second vaccination dose no later than Dec. 21 – two weeks before the first day of classes. Your vaccine must be approved by Health Canada.

By Dec. 21, you must upload proof of your second dose through our SAFEHawk app (Laurier’s safety application) and receive a green badge containing a unique QR code. Following that, you will be permitted to register for in-person courses and attend our Brantford or Waterloo campuses.

If you cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons or other grounds protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code, you can request an exemption. You must submit your exemption form and supporting documentation by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2021. Please note that exemptions are not guaranteed and are only granted in exceptional circumstances. If you submit your exemption request after this date, you are not guaranteed to receive a response in time to attend in-person courses on Jan. 4.

International Students

The Safe Travel, Arrival and Quarantine (STAQ) program was created to support incoming international students as they navigate Canada’s COVID-19 protocols for entry.

This program is required for all incoming international students who are not fully vaccinated with a Health Canada-approved vaccine. Learn more and register for our quarantine program.

2. Obtain Your Vaccine Badge to Attend Campus and Register in On-Campus Courses

To keep everyone safe and healthy, Wilfrid Laurier University requires all students, staff and faculty to be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccine before participating in in-person courses or activities on our campuses. (The vaccine requirement does not apply to online courses or online programs.)

You will not be permitted to register for in-person courses without a green vaccine badge in the SAFEHawk application.

To attend campus, you must also complete the daily self-assessment form in SAFEHawk.

Ensure you read our full vaccine requirements and instructions for the daily self-assessment.

Important Dates:

The first day of classes is Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022. Classes will be delivered remotely starting on Jan. 4 and will resume in person on Monday, Jan. 31, provided public health direction allows. The university’s mandatory vaccination policy remains in effect.
