Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Laurier’s Lifelong Learning Certificate is an opportunity for our dedicated Laurier Association for Lifelong Learning (LALL) students to work towards a certificate that celebrates their commitment to lifelong learning.

How to Earn Your Certificate

Earning your Lifelong Learning Certificate will require you to participate in 95+ hours of approved lifelong learning courses.

When you register for a course, make sure it is an approved course that will provide hours towards your certificate completion. The course descriptions indicate whether the course is an approved certificate course.

After completing your course(s), you will submit an individual reflection to the Office of Continuing Education for each course you complete. Reflections will be reviewed by Laurier staff and faculty who will provide feedback and confirm your course completion.

The Office of Continuing Education maintains records of completion for each participant. Once a participant has completed 95+ course hours and accompanying reflections they will receive their certificate.

Reflection Information

Your reflection can be submitted in any format to It must include your name, email and course title.

Your reflection should answer two questions:

  • What was your key learning from this course?
  • How do you see what you have learned impacting your life moving forward?

Your reflection should be approximately 500-1,000 words (one page single-spaced at minimum, two pages single-spaced at maximum). When writing your reflection, remember that the reviewer was not present during the course, so you should be as descriptive as possible.

Due Date

Each term there will be clear deadlines set for when reflections are due following course completion. Timelines are set so that the reflection deadline occurs within approximately two weeks of course completion.

If you are unable to complete your reflection within the deadlines posted, you must contact prior to the deadline to inquire about an extension.

Reflections will be reviewed by Laurier staff and faculty who volunteer to be part of LALL’s reflection review committee. Your reflection will be sent to one member of the committee to read and provide feedback on. Once your reflection has been reviewed any feedback will be sent to you by the Office of Continuing Education.

Deadlines to receive feedback will be posted each semester based on the reflection due date.

Submissions for Previous LALL Courses

We are very appreciative of our dedicated members who have taken a variety of courses with us over the years; however, course reflections will only be accepted from the spring 2019 term onwards to count towards the certificate. No previous course reflections from courses taken before the spring 2019 term will be accepted as the Lifelong Learning Certificate was approved for the spring 2019 term and Laurier’s certificate approval process does not allow for submissions of previously completed courses.

Multiple Reflection Submissions

To complete the requirements for the certificate each individual must submit one reflection per class. Therefore, if you take multiple classes each semester, you are required to complete a reflection for each class.

Each reflection may only count towards one person’s course completion requirements.
