Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

I received my MA, Communication and my PhD, Communication from the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University. I hold a Bachelor of Arts, English from the University of Western Ontario.
My research examines how women have organized, mobilized, and participated in public life through various communicative resources. My current research project investigates three Canadian national women’s magazines circulating in Canada in the early decades of the twentieth century, and examines the possibilities and problems inherent in commercialized media forms.
Previously, I have written about the rise of “postfeminism,” the development of cultural studies in Canada, and the very public trial of the art works of a Canadian artist, Eli Langer.
My additional research interests include the history of past and current feminist movements, feminist media history, Canadian communication history, media and television studies, and feminism and popular culture.
I welcome the opportunity to supervise students interested in communication and gender representation; media and feminism; communication and advertising; Canadian communication history; communication and popular culture; communication and media industries; and communication policy.
