The international student tuition deposit allows Laurier to ensure that we are adequately prepared to support all the incredible international students who will live and learn on one of our campuses.
Beyond benefitting your study permit application process, this tuition deposit shows your interest in attending your university of choice and that you are committed to attending your program at Laurier.
Laurier requires a tuition deposit in the amount of $2,000 CAD from all undergraduate international students, including students who have already received and/or accepted offers of admission.
The tuition deposit is not an additional fee. It will be applied to your first-term tuition balance once you enrol in courses and your invoice is issued.
Your deposit will not be refunded if you choose not to come to Laurier after paying your deposit or if you don’t meet the conditions of your offer.
The following are examples of situations where your deposit may be refunded:
If you're identified as requiring a provincial attestation letter (PAL) for spring or fall 2024, you must pay the deposit to action the PAL request. We will notify you if you need to pay a deposit and you will have two weeks after the notification to pay the deposit. We will also send you one reminder.
We ask that you do not make any tuition deposit payments before you have accepted an offer of admission to Laurier.
A payment made before an offer is accepted may be applied as a payment rather than as your tuition deposit (this is an important difference). If your payment is not applied as a deposit, you may not receive a PAL.
If you have made a payment before accepting an offer, you must contact International Student Support to have the payment applied as a deposit.
If you require a PAL to obtain your study permit, it is recommended that you pay your tuition deposit within two weeks (14 days) after you have accepted your offer of admission.
If more than two weeks have passed since you accepted your offer, it is recommended that you pay your tuition deposit as soon as possible for Laurier to initiate the PAL request from the province of Ontario.
Your offer of admission will not be rescinded if you are unable to pay your tuition deposit within two weeks of accepting your offer. Since a deposit is required before Laurier can request your PAL, we recommend submitting your deposit as soon as possible, and no later than June 10, 2024.
If you do not require a PAL, the deadline to pay your tuition deposit is one week after the confirmation deadline. June 3, 2024 is the confirmation deadline, so your tuition deposit payment deadline is June 10, 2024.
If you're not sure if you need a PAL, read our IRCC study permit FAQs.
You must pay your tuition deposit through the CIBC International Student Pay portal. or, if you have a Canadian bank account, you can pay through online banking. When you submit the payment, please add “Tuition Deposit” to the payment note.
It can take three to 10 days for your tuition deposit to be processed. Once it has been processed, you will be emailed a payment notification to your MyLaurier email address.
Any payment already made to Laurier will have the amount of the tuition deposit deducted from it, and will cover your tuition deposit. Because we will be deducting your deposit from the payment you have already made, you may be required to make an additional payment to fully cover the amount owing.
Please contact International Student Support with any questions regarding a payment that has already been made.
The deposit will show in your LORIS account once it has been processed. You can verify that your deposit has been received by checking your LORIS account:
When we receive the deposit, it will be applied to your student account as a credit:
